IN MEMORY OF GARY REDISH

December 16, 1948 – February 22, 2026

It is with a profound sense of loss and deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Gary Redish.

Many of us had known Gary for many years before he joined the firm as a partner over 30 years ago, and we were grateful to have him.

Gary was a skilled attorney who provided outstanding legal services and ethical and moral representation to his clients. He was a throwback to the days before the specialized practices of today. He was as adept at negotiating business transactions, writing complicated briefs, and trying a case as he was with a sophisticated real estate matter. Frequently, he was the glue that held a deal together. Clients simply loved Gary and he produced great results on a consistent basis.

The quintessential partner, if you needed Gary on a matter, the words “no” or “sorry, too busy” simply did not exist. It is one thing to hope that on a matter you originate but do not handle you have a partner treat the client nicely and fairly. Gary always treated all clients as if they were his own. He kept partners completely informed and up-to-date.

Gary was also a wonderful mentor for associates and senior litigators, all of whom benefited from his vast knowledge and experience. And, he was a consummate storyteller on almost any subject, with an impish grin on his face whenever he retold those stories.

For many years, Gary was the face of the firm within CONSULEGIS, an international organization of law firms in 42 countries. He gave real substance to the idea of trusted international cooperation between independent firms. He represented Winne Banta with a rare combination of professionalism, loyalty, integrity, and dry humor, and he did so consistently: in conferences across different continents, in day-to-day exchanges with members, and in the way he handled cross-border work with pragmatism and respect.

Within the CONSULEGIS network, Gary was known for being genuinely engaged and remarkably available. Many members have shared how much they valued working with him, and how much they appreciated the confidence and clarity he brought to referrals and international matters. Above all, he built the kind of relationships that outlast agendas and turn a network into a real community.

One of his clients perhaps said it best on learning of Gary’s passing:

“When I met Gary about 20 years ago, I knew he and the Winne Banta team were going to be our lawyers for a long time. Because of him I realized how important it was to have a great lawyer on your side. Gary wasn’t just my lawyer, he was also a great friend. I learned so much from him. Our conversations were not only about business but also about politics, religion, family etc. I really enjoyed every minute of it. I will miss him so much.”

The attorneys and staff of Winne Banta will miss our friend, colleague and mentor, Gary Redish, and treasure his memory.

Winne Banta Associates Climb to New Heights

The Winne Banta team never backs down from a challenge – even if that means climbing a 40ft wall!

Associates and interns from various departments – Tax, Trusts and Estates; Litigation; and Real Estate – learned the basics of climbing, bouldering, and falling (safely) from the wonderful staff at GOAT Climbing Gym (“GOAT”). GOAT, located on River Road in Hackensack, New Jersey is a community-focused climbing gym featuring 60ft competition walls, 40-60ft top rope climbs, and bouldering walls. It’s a fun and challenging environment and the Winne Banta team enjoyed the opportunity to support a local business, learn a new skill, and overcome the fear of heights (the floor does look quite far away from 40 ft up!). Altogether, the experience was an exercise of perseverance and strategic thinking, the same skills used by the Winne Banta team in their legal practice. They’re simply thankful to do so from the ground.
